Project Case Studies This recently completed project is the largest regional shopping centre in N.Z.
Situated on a 24 hectare site offering over 180 specialty retail stores, a state of the art Hoyts 10 screen cinema complex, an entertainment precinct and over 3000 carparks, this is the largest project undertaken by Allendale Electrical to date.
The site is served by its own 11KV ring main from a new Vector substation on the perimeter of the site, LV power is provided through 12 No. 1MVA transformers to dedicated main switchboards for each zone. "House" boards provide services to common areas whilewhile tenancies are generally supplied via fused tap off boxes from one of a number of "retail" bus systems installed in the ceilings.
All house lighting including the malls, amenities, carparks, ringroad, signage and feature lighting is controlled by a fully programmable Dynalite control system.
Allendale's contract also included the lighting design of specialist lighting for common areas, feature lighting & controls and design & installation of a fibre & copper backbone network for the centre.
The highly technical challenge of wiring this state of the art building while managing the transfer of critical head office services was met head on by Allendale Electrical.
Our long association with Vodafone meant we understood the very technical nature of their business and were able to offer them peace of mind through this period of change, that the project would be completed as planned to their exacting standards.
Part of this project included integrating 3 stand alone generators and various UPS's and associated change over controls to serve the site.
Auckland Museum has been redeveloped over the past 12 years. Allendale performed the electrical installation for both the existing Museum upgrade (from 1995-2000) and the more recent Stage 2 works - Grand Atrium Project.
The recent works increased the floor space of the museum by 60% and encompassed digging out 2 basement levels and infilling the existing crescent at the rear of the building.
The new space is fitted out as storage , offices, classrooms, special exhibition space and function areas. The electrical work was done for Hawkins Construction and had a final value in excess of $3 M.
Special care was required during construction to interface with the existing installation so as not to disrupt the working Museum or the unique nature of this majestic building.
This facility is New Zealands largest purpose built policing centre, comprising approximately 3,500 sq metres of operational office space and 4000 sq metres of secure space, cell units, car parking and associated facillities.
A new generation of design concentrated on energy efficiency for all services and saw the separation of "hard" and "soft" areas so victims and offenders do not even come visually into contact with each other.
Allendale Electrical worked closely with the designers, builders and the Police to ensure that the finished facility operated the way the Police wanted.
One of the biggest challenges Allendale faced was the design and installation of the Lightning protection system. Considerable consideration had to be given to the people housed in the cell blocks, the police antenna and architectural resistrictions along the length of the 60m building while still adhering to protection level PL1 from AS/NZS 1768.
The wiring of this boutique Mt. Eden mixed use development required considerable thought and an artisan approach.
Designed by award winning Avery architects, comprising of four stories of commercial, maisonette appartments and retail space, a major feature of this project was the exposed services.
For Allendale this meant every piece of cable tray, every curve and cut, every clipped cable, every light fitting and fixture had to be installed to meet the high aesthetic standards.
